Things to Do With Kids in Pittsburgh: A Fun Slides Visitor Guide

Looking for something active to do with the kids in Pittsburgh that isn’t another trampoline park or afternoon at the mall?

Fun Slides Carpet Skatepark and Party Center is a 35,000 square foot indoor blacklight entertainment center in Pittsburgh’s North Hills where kids strap special plastic skates over their shoes and slide across carpet-covered ramps, rails, and half-pipes. Beyond the skating, every admission pass includes access to a full lineup of Xtra Activities — blacklight dodgeball, a ninja warrior course, carpet hockey, Nerf War Zone, bounce houses, butt slides, and a redemption arcade.

This guide covers what Fun Slides is, what’s included, what to know before you arrive, and how to plan your visit.

What Is Fun Slides?

Fun Slides runs on carpet skating — a style of active play that’s unlike anything else in the Pittsburgh area. Guests put on plastic skates that attach right over their shoes and glide across carpeted ramps, rails, and half-pipes under blacklight. No prior skating experience required. Most first-timers are comfortable within a few minutes, and every first-time skater gets a dedicated instructor until they’re ready to explore on their own.

The experience is beginner-friendly by design. Ramps are rated by difficulty — beginner through expert — so kids work up at their own pace instead of being pushed onto something they’re not ready for.

What’s Inside the Park

Why It Works for Pittsburgh Families

Kids sliding down carpet skating ramps at Fun Slides Carpet Skatepark Pittsburgh
Pittsburgh weather is unpredictable — rainy weekends, cold stretches that run into April, summer heat that makes outdoor plans miserable by noon. Fun Slides is a fully indoor, climate-controlled space that runs the same regardless of what’s happening outside.

Beyond the weather angle, there’s genuine variety inside. Families who visit once tend to come back because kids who liked the ramps on the first visit want to spend more time on the dodgeball arena or ninja course the next time. The activities hold up across multiple visits in a way that single-activity venues don’t.

It’s also genuinely beginner-accessible. A kid who has never tried any kind of skating before can show up, get a few minutes with an instructor, and be sliding independently within the first session. That lowers the barrier for parents who are unsure whether their child will take to it.

Planning Your Visit

How long should we plan to stay?
Most families visit for a two-hour session. Kids who get really into it tend to push toward all-day. If you’re unsure, the two-hour pass is a good starting point — you can always upgrade at the front desk if the kids don’t want to leave.

When is it busiest?
Weekend afternoons, especially during school breaks and winter months. If you want a more relaxed first visit, weekday afternoons during the school year tend to be quieter.

Can parents skate too?
Yes. Adults are welcome to skate and participate in activities with a paid admission pass and completed waiver. Spectating parents get in free — waiver required.

What about parking?
Free lot behind the main Pines Plaza building. Look for the neon orange painted spaces.
