STEM Learning Built Into the Experience

Carpet skating is a natural classroom for physics. Students don’t read about motion, friction, and balance — they feel them in real time. When a kid pushes off on a carpeted ramp and adjusts their body to stay upright, they’re working through concepts of force, momentum, balance, and surface friction without sitting at a desk. The learning is embedded in the activity.

The UV Light Activity

Fun Slides offers a structured STEM curriculum experience for grades 2–6 built around ultraviolet light and fluorescence. Students learn how UV light causes certain materials to glow — a concept called fluorescence. In a hands-on activity, students use crayons, markers, and highlighters to color a sheet featuring Slippy, the Fun Slides mascot. Their goal is to figure out which tools produce the brightest glow.

When the main lights go off and the UV lights come on, students see the results of their own observations. It’s a memorable, low-tech experiment that connects directly to light science and material properties.

How to Book a Field Trip

Field trips require advance coordination — no walk-ins for groups. To get started, call (412) 364-9400 or use the contact form on this page. We’ll work through dates, group size, and scheduling. Once your booking is confirmed and the deposit is complete, you’ll receive an electronic agreement and a customized waiver link to share with your group. Every participant needs a completed waiver before entering the park — parents or guardians must sign for anyone under 18. Sending the waiver link in advance keeps check-in fast. Send a guest list at least 48 hours before your event date. Balance is due the day of the visit.
